EDUCATIONAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN UNIVERSIDAD INTERNACIONAL AND HOSPITAL METROPOLITANO.

Hospital Metropolitano, in their interest to promote a comprehensive health education to the community, conducted in 2005 an educational agreement with the Universidad Internacional del Ecuador, with the objective of providing postgraduate university courses to obtain certificates of specialties in different areas of medical knowledge.

These courses allow students to acquire knowledge and skills of the highest quality by highly qualified teachers, all prestigious specialists of Hospital Metropolitano, and the best medical facilities with advanced technology equipment to make available to residents the most modern material for diagnosis, and clinical and surgical treatment. Concerning the surgical area, the Hospital allows residents to develop skills through experimental surgery laboratory, with equipment and training courses.

Graduate programs consist of the following specialties:

  • Internal Medicine.
  • General Surgery.
  • Gynecology and obstetrics.
  • Trauma
  • Orthopedics.

Postgraduate courses are inspired by the classic and still in force model of the United States of America, which originates from the famous surgeon Dr. William Stewart Halsted from the John Hopkins University, a model that involves the development of clinical and surgical skills based on hospital residency with the exercise of autonomy and increased responsibilities, under a regime of explicit hierarchies and close supervision.

The acceptance of these graduate courses has been tremendous, with a demand of ten applicants for every place offered. This result is due to joint and coordinated work of two institutions with national and international prestige, such as the Universidad Internacional del Ecuador and the Hospital Metropolitano, obtaining a benefit for thousands of students that seek excellence in their studies and professional career.
