Falls protocol
Your safety is very important to us. The Metropolitan Hospital continually implements continuous improvement plans to minimize the risk to patients caused by falls.
People at higher risk of falls
- Children under 5 years old.
- Adults over 65 years of age.
- People with difficulties seeing, hearing, walking or moving.
- Patients taking medications to sleep, lower blood pressure, glucose, laxatives or diuretics.
- Disoriented, dizzy and recently operated patients.
The collaboration of family members is important
- Keep room furniture in place.
- Alert the nursing staff if you leave the patient ALONE in the room.
- Keep preventive measures as you have found them.
- Place the bell and personal items within reach of the patient.
How to prevent falls?

DO NOT get up quickly, wait a couple of minutes sitting on the edge of the bed, especially if you have been resting for a long time.

If the bed or crib rail is raised, for safety reasons do not lower it.

Keep the lighting system on at night.

Use the doorbell if you require attention, are dizzy, need to get up, go to the bathroom, or have trouble walking. Please DO NOT do it alone.

For your safety, use sneakers or shoes that do not slip. DO NOT walk barefoot or in socks.

We ask you to inform the Nursing staff if the patient is left ALONE in the room.
