Products and services

The Epilepsy Center opens a new stage in the study and care of the patient, with outstanding specialized professionals, for both children and adults. The Center has the most advanced technology for accurate diagnosis and treatment of epilepsies, with the aim to offer the patient a better quality of life with a comprehensive and personalized approach.
The patient will be evaluated by epileptologists, who will certify their diagnosis with the best technology available in the country, to know the cause and, therefore, the diagnosis and the treatment.
The Epilepsy Center has electroencephalography equipment of 16 and 32 digital channels, with spike detector, and video monitoring, both for ambulatory and hospital patient care. This equipment allows for more accurate and reliable studies.
The results are analyzed and reported by Neurologists with specialized training in Neurophysiology and Epilepsy. On this way, we not only offer improvements in the traditional diagnostic and therapeutic processes but also we also provide surgical treatments to patients who require it.
The Epilepsy Center is the only one that has the technology and equipment necessary to perform surgical procedures for the treatment of epilepsy.

Services

Epilepsy surgery is an alternative treatment for all those patients who have Refractory Epilepsy, that is, despite taking 3 antiepileptic drugs (3 drugs) at the maximum tolerated doses, it continues to present seizures. The surgical procedure is based on a monitoring protocol before the intervention itself; The monitoring consists of:
  • Continuous EEG Video recording.
  • Brain Nuclear Magnetic Resonance with epilepsy protocol.
  • Neuropsychological assessment.
Epilepsy surgery is a safe procedure, which has been performed for many years, in different hospitals around the world with excellent results.

EEG

The EEG is a study that tracks brain activity in a computer in the form of lines through 24 electrodes placed on the head and 2 electrodes in the chest that capture the heart rate without the patient feeling electric shock, heat or pain. For doing this, it is necessary to clean the area in the head in which the electrode will be placed using a swab and a cream that does not cause pain. Each of these electrodes is fixed to the head with a conductive paste which attracts brain electrical activity to the equipment.
The test could last approximately 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the type of exam.
A neurologist (a doctor who specializes in nervous system disorders) will read and interpret the results. Although electroencephalograms vary in complexity and duration, the results are usually available in approximately 48 hours.
The study is entirely painless and does not involve any risk. However, by Disposition of the Ministries of Health, all patients must sign an informed consent.

Video EEG

The Video EEG is a study in which an electroencephalogram and a video record of the patient's behavior during epileptic seizures are performed simultaneously. In this way, a clinical and electrical sequence of the seizures is obtained, which allows identifying the region or hemisphere where the electric discharge begins.
It is an essential method for the evaluation of patients with epilepsy, especially those epilepsies that are difficult to control or epilepsies that do not respond to medication.
Video monitoring is a long-term study performed with patients that are admitted in the Hospital, which has the facilities and assurances for the management of patients. The test can also be carried out at the NEUROVIDA facilities, only when the study lasts 8 hours.
The study is entirely painless and does not involve any risk. However, by Disposition of the Ministries of Health, all patients must sign an informed consent.

Neuropsychologic Assessment

It is done with an interview, whether the patient is hospitalized or not, to develop a psychological profile of the patient and their environment.
Once the monitoring is completed, a personalized treatment which can be clinical or surgical is designed for each patient.

Comprehensive Rehabilitation

The Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center has a set of professional services for patients that require personalized therapy for their recovery and evolution.
The Epilepsy Center has a series of complete rehabilitation programs, aimed at patients with acute or chronic problems, and those who are in the recovery phase after a microsurgical intervention.
